With the capabilities of a 5-Axis CNC Wire EDM, tasks that were once though impossible are now completed with ease. Ultimate Tool has the capabilities to maching the most complex profiles in just about any conductive material, no matter how hard. Ultimate Tool currently Machines complex profiles for dies and other components in materials such as Carbide, Tantalum, Inconel, Moly, Stainless and so on.

EDM or Electric Discharge Machining, is a machining method primarily used for hard metals or contours that would be impossible to machine with traditional techniques. EDM or is especially well-suited for cutting intricate contours or delicate cavities that would be difficult to produce with other cutting methods. Metals that can be machined with EDM include, but are not limited to, hastalloy, hardened tool-steel, titanium, carbide, inconel, kovar and other electrically conductive materials.
EDM is sometimes called "spark machining" because it removes metal by producing a rapid series of repetitive electrical discharges. These electrical discharges are passed between an electrode and the piece of metal being machined. The small amount of material that is removed from the workpiece is flushed away with a continuously flowing fluid. The repetitive discharges create a set of successively deeper craters in the work piece until the final shape is produced.
In wire EDM a very thin wire serves as the electrode. Special brass wires are typically used; the wire is slowly fed through the material and the electrical discharges actually cut the workpiece. The wire never actually makes contact with the material, which means that there is no "Cutter Wear" which is found in almost all other machining operations. This means that the very last cut is identical to the first, making Wire EDM extremely accurate.
